Part of the city since 1914, Tianjin's Natural History Museum is a facility specialising in palaeontology and fossils, and features a collection of almost 400,000 specimens of this nature. In 1907, the Guangdong Guildhall was built and used as a meeting place for Sun Yat Sen and other revolutionaries of Guangdong. A century later, the same building is now the home of the Tianjin Opera Museum, a facility offering both traditional operatic performances and exhibitions relating to the history of opera within the city. The elaborate and ornately decorated Central Hall is the setting for spring opera performances, while the courtyard is the place to find the museum's varied displays.
